Fun day trips for a Cancun vacation

When planning your Cancun vacation you may search for discount hotels and air travel deals to find the best hotel deals and cheap air travel.  Airlines Northwest can help you find cheap airline tickets, car rentals and hotel rooms in Cancun.  However, after you have booked your travel plans, do not forget to plan what you want to do while you are in Cancun.  Some travelers are so caught up in finding the best budget travel deals that they forget to plan excursions and activities for once they arrive at their vacation destination. Therefore, to help you have fun on your Cancun vacation, here are some ideas for Cancun day trips that are fun and exciting.

Garrafon National Reef Park – Located at the sound end of Isla Mujeres, this great natural park is filled with fun and exciting adventures including snorkeling, zip-lining, kayaking and swimming.  Admission is a package that includes meals, activities and drinks.

Mayan Ruins – The Mayan Ruins at Chichen Itza are truly spectacular and well worth the drive from Cancun (about 2 ½ hours).  Plan to spend a full day for this excursion and note that there is a lot of walking and prepare accordingly.  The Mayan Ruins at Tulum is a shorter drive from Cancun (about 1 ½ hours) and the setting is gorgeous – – the ruins are right by the sea.  You can plan to take a nice swim after touring the site.

Swim with the sharks – Take an excursion from June to mid-September to swim with the giant but gentle whale sharks.  Whale sharks are filter feeders so they are quite safe to swim with off the Cancun shores.  Several companies offer tours to find and swim with the sharks.  It is a fantastic adventure and one that you are not likely to forget.

Swim in a cenote – A cenote is a natural pool that has been formed in limestone.  There are several cenotes located around Cancun where you can swim.  If you desire, you can even find a few underground cenotes to visit.

Xcaret Eco-archaeological park – The Xcaret is a wonderful Cancun attraction that takes an entire day to enjoy.  There are nighttime shows as well as daytime shows for the family to enjoy, an underground river float and Mayan Village among other attractions.  It is located about an hour’s drive from Cancun. You can also visit the shops and restaurants located in the theme park.
